PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Elizabeth Piliavin-Godwin joined the firm in November 2003.
She has an extensive background in post-conviction litigation
at both the state and federal level. Ms. Piliavin-Godwin represents
clients in habeas corpus litigation, criminal law and civil
litigation.
EXPERIENCE
Elizabeth Piliavin-Godwin is a 1993 graduate of the University
of California, Berkeley and a 1997 graduate of New York University
School of Law. During law school, she was a judicial extern
for the Honorable Robert Levy, Federal Magistrate Judge for
the Eastern District of New York, and served as editor and
Senior Articles Editor for the New York University Review
of Law & Social Change.
After graduation from law school, Ms. Piliavin-Godwin received
the Judy Clarke fellowship from the Center for Capital Litigation
in Columbia, South Carolina, and began representing clients
in capital post-conviction proceedings. In 1998, Ms. Piliavin-Godwin
joined the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Central
District of California where she acted as a research attorney
and co-authored RECAP, a nationally distributed newsletter
for attorneys with capitally sentenced clients.
