PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
D. Jay Ritt founded the firm in 1995 with Kerry Bensinger. Mr. Ritt primarily represents business clients, both defendants and plaintiffs, in the area of civil and business litigation, focusing on employment law and intellectual property law. He is experienced in the areas of copyright, trademark and patent infringement, partnership dissolution, breach of contract, fraud actions, discrimination and employment disputes.

EXPERIENCE
Since graduating from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1988, Mr. Ritt has handled all phases of civil and most phases of criminal litigation. He has focused primarily on complex business and partnership disputes, with an emphasis in employment and intellectual property matters. Prior to undertaking his legal career, Mr. Ritt obtained his Bachelors degree in English in 1985, graduating cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mr. Ritt currently represents numerous individual and corporate clients in matters ranging from straightforward employment discrimination to business fraud and racketeering cases. He has extensive trial, mediation and arbitration experience in both state and federal court. He has appeared before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Second District Court of Appeals for the State of California on many occasions. He has also successfully petitioned for review to the California Supreme Court.

Additionally, Mr. Ritt is active in the representation of death row inmates and others seeking federal habeas corpus relief.

When he first founded the firm with Kerry Bensinger in 1995, Mr. Ritt believed that youthful exuberance, a decent public education and vigorous training could match up well against age, experience and guile. Moving past 40, he enjoys playing for the other team.
Mr. Ritt is married to LA Lawyer cover girl and fellow Boalt alum Mara Morner-Ritt and together they raise two spunky girls: Jessy and Ella. Mr. Ritt’s personal interests include running, yoga, baseball and alternative country music.
